Controlling alcohol use in social settings can be tricky. Since drinking is frequently a social activity, over time, social situations themselves can start to prompt a strong desire to drink. Additionally, if most everyone in a situation is freely drinking, that can encourage you to do the same. There may be \u2018special occasions\u2019, such as weddings, celebrations or other events that last a long time, when drinking is a part of the occasion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To drink less so no one asks questions and assumes we might have a problem.<\/li>\n<li>\u2192 Are not currently grappling with severe life problems such as divorce, job loss, bankruptcy, debilitating or life-threatening medical illness, death of a loved one, depression or other psychiatric illness, etc.<\/li>\n<li>We assume this means that we\u2019re moderating our drinking well.<\/li>\n<li>Excessive alcohol use can harm people who drink and those around them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Set Goals and Turn to the Support of Others<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='aligncenter' style='display: block;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;' src=\"https:\/\/ecosoberhouse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-EVcIAehu9LpmgC0w.png\" width=\"309px\" alt=\"how to drink moderately\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Awareness is a gift of grace  that we get to course-correct. Try challenging yourself not to drink for the first minutes to experience social environments without alcohol. This can be easily done by saying, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know what I want to drink yet.&#8221; That moment led me to question who I really was without using alcohol to mask my <a href=\"https:\/\/search.yahoo.com\/search?p=drug+addiction\">drug addiction<\/a> insecurities. I used to think alcohol made me more of who I was \u2013 more open, more social, more fun&#8230;more whatever.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Moderate drinking is characterized by up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men.<\/li>\n<li>It also helps to regulate your blood pressure and improve your cognitive functioning.<\/li>\n<li>Similarly, make sure your drinks are standard sizes (12 ounces of regular beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits).<\/li>\n<li>All your information is kept confidential, and the program is designed to be discreet and home-based.<\/li>\n<li>Small changes can make a big difference for someone whose alcohol use is problematic but hasn&#8217;t risen to the level of official diagnosis, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Do I Moderate My Drinking?<\/h2>\n<div style='text-align:center'><iframe width='564' height='313' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/F7LRiemWae4' frameborder='0' alt='how to drink moderately' allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Despite their best efforts to drink less and in healthy ways, they continue to overdrink and alcohol continues to negatively affect their lives.
